On 21 November 2026, Women For Change will lead a historic procession from Wits University to Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, as part of the nationwide Women's Shutdown 2026.

In 2025, more than 1.1 million people demanded that Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) be classified as a National Disaster. Together, we achieved that recognition.

Almost one year later, women and children continue to be murdered, raped and failed by the systems meant to protect them. Recognition was never the end goal. Now we demand implementation, funding and accountability.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The Procession | Wits University to Constitution Hill

We will walk together, carrying our Unburied Casket to honour women murdered by femicide and families still waiting for justice. At Constitution Hill, we will escalate our demands to the judiciary, calling for urgent action and institutional accountability.

The 15-Minute Silent Lie-Down at Constitutional Hill | 12 pm

At midday, we will lie down at Constitutional Hill for 15 minutes in remembrance of the approximately 15 women murdered every day in South Africa. This symbolic action forms part of a nationwide and global mobilisation against femicide.

WHY REGISTER?

This event is completely FREE. No payment or donation is required to participate.

We ask participants to register so Women For Change can estimate attendance, plan logistics and safety arrangements, and communicate important event updates. Registration helps us prepare for the number of people joining the procession and lie-down at Constitution Hill.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Women, members of the LGBTQI+ community and allies are welcome to participate.
