The Songmakers Guild is thrilled to launch Iconic, a new concert series banner celebrating masterpieces that have helped shape the art song repertoire. Henceforth, one concert in the Guild s yearly calendar will be dedicated to such iconic works, performed by some of South Africa's finest artists.

The series begins with Franz Schubert's timeless setting of Wilhelm M ller s Winterreise, one of the unquestionable turning points in the history of art song.

Across its 24 songs, an ailing Schubert confronts his own impending death through the perspective of M ller s wanderer - a desolate and deeply moving account of love, loss, and the search for life s elusive meaning. Its unapologetic bleakness and haunting emotional rawness has captivated listeners ever since its inception.

Acclaimed baritone William Berger and the Guild s former artistic director, pianist Esthea Kruger, join their remarkable creative forces to bring this powerful work to life in what promises to be an unmissable highlight in the Guild s concert series.
