About the march

??? Take Back The Rand is a peaceful march by ordinary South Africans calling for transparency, fairness and accountability in how our currency is handled.

In 2015, the Competition Commission accused 28 local and international banks of colluding to manipulate the rand-dollar exchange rate between 2007 and 2013. In 2023, Standard Chartered admitted to the conduct and paid a R42.7 million fine. In June 2026, the Constitutional Court cleared South Africa s major local banks, and the case continues against a small group of international banks. More than ten years later, the case still hasn t been heard on its merits.

The value of the rand affects what every South African pays for fuel, food, transport and loans. Our rand. Our future.
