Inge Norum Live at Artvark Gallery.

Inge Norum is a Norwegian drummer and percussionist whose musical journey spans jazz, theatre, opera, world music and contemporary performance.

His first major concert took place at Oslo s legendary Club 7. Between 1980 and 1985, he worked extensively as a freelance musician, performing with numerous bands, theatre and opera productions, the NRK Big Band and a wide range of well-known Norwegian artists. During this period, he also studied the Indian tabla and developed a lasting interest in rhythm traditions beyond Europe.

One of the most memorable moments of his musical life was the rare privilege of performing with the celebrated Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The Polish Jazz Association also invited Norum to tour in Poland.

African music has remained his greatest musical inspiration. For several years, he helped run the Yebo Choir in Norway, an ensemble devoted entirely to traditional South African music. The experience deepened his connection to the rhythms, voices and communal energy of Southern Africa.

After 1985, Norum continued making music alongside his professional career as a photographer and visual artist. He has played in several long-running bands and, in 2002, one of his groups achieved second place in Norsktoppen, Norway s long-established national radio music competition.

He continues to perform at concerts and musical events. Most recently, he appeared with renowned Norwegian saxophonist Bendik Hofseth at the Norwegian National Opera.
